The modern laser is a versatile tool capable of cutting as well as engraving a wide range of materials, including; composites, leather, mat board, nylon, plastics (excluding PVC plastics), veneer, vinyl, wood and more.
Create designs that would require hours of of scroll saw cutting but the laser can quickly reproduce precision pieces from one to multiple copies of the work! Create Custom Shapes and designs.

Stencil Cutting

We
can work from your own designs to create custom stencils for your
special projects. Scale your work up and down to create a theme that
can be carried over on a wide range of surfaces and materials instead
of having to settle on what's commercially available in the market. We
can laser cut your designs with Mylar material that we have in up to 12"x24".
Lettering must be in a stencil font format so the middle of letters are connected to the material or the middle of letters simple drop out. We do have a standard stencil font or you may provide your own graphic formatted for stencil cut.
When designing graphics for stencils you must have every piece in some way attached to the base material to keep everything in place and attached so no pieces go missing from the design. Designs may require several separate stencils to achieve the final graphic design that involves complex shapes or multiple colors in the design.

Laser engraving and laser cutting are two different processes. For laser
cutting I need a vector file. Corel Draw, in the Corel Graphics Suite
or a CAD DWG file may be used to produce the necessary cut lines. Use RED lines
for anything to be cut or for your layout or center marks for drilling or manual cuts and black for areas to be
engraved. Use a color such as green for anything that is not to be cut
or engraved, such as dimensions or other information on the drawing.
Include the actual outside dimensions so I know exactly what size the
graphics are to be as files do not always open to the correct size.
I may be able to scan in your templates and produce the necessary cut file, but this may be less accurate than an actual drawing file. Graphics fees may apply.
The cost for cutting is based on the time required to do the job. The time required depends on the material used; wood, plastic, paper products, leather and thicker or thinner material, all of which affect the time required for the piece(s). Also, larger or more detailed pieces take longer than smaller or simple pieces. With this in mind, it's impossible to create such a price sheet. What I do is use the customers actual pattern and create a quote for that pattern and the material being used for that job. Shipping and handling are additional.)
We can cut from paper thin to 1/4" soft woods, like white pine. Harder woods to around 1/8", such as Cherry. A wood like ebony is not only very hard but also oily, as many exotic woods may be, and tend to catch fire before I am able to cut through, I've tried 1/8" thick ebony with no luck. I've cut modelers plywood to around 1/8" thick, the quality of the material really matters and affects the quality of the cut. We have Cherry in 1/8" thick X 5" X 24". Cherry is a stable hardwood with a nice golden tone. Wood Craft has a line of sheet material in many species, thickness and lengths.
Charring becomes a problem
when multiple passes are attempted to engrave or cut through a piece
that's too thick or dense, or, in the case of Ebony, it's just too darn
dense and oily for me to cut. I have to use too much power at too slow
a speed for such materials to laser cut.
Wood needs to have the
surface sealed prior to laser engraving or cutting. The laser process
produces a smoky residue that will stain the wood if the surface is not
sealed. You may apply your final finish coats once you receive the
engraved pieces. If you intend to stain the wood, the piece should be stained and your finish applied
except for your final coats which will also seal the engraving. You may
LIGHTLY sand the surface and then apply your final finish coats which
will also seal the engraving. After finishing you may either leave the
engraved area it's natural laser engraved color or color fill the
engraved areas. You need to at least seal the engraved areas prior to
staining or coloring the engraved areas to prevent the color from
bleeding out in to the surrounding wood.
